From hot chicken sandwiches popping up in fast food joints around the country to craft breweries producing beer in partnership with pepper spray companies, the spicy foods trend doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere soon.
This week, that trend officially reached the candy aisle. Sure there were already Red Hots and other cinnamon-flavored sweets of that nature, but this week we’re talking some real heat as Skittles and Starburst blaze onto shelves with their new “Sweet Heat” confections.
The spicy editions of these consumer-favorite candies were announced back in May of 2017 at the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, much to the delight of consumers, according to E! Online. Flavors include Fiery Watermelon, Blazin’ Mango, Flamin’ Orange, Sizzlin’ Strawberry and Lemon Spark.
They will be available in stores across the nation at price points of $0.99 for a small bag and up to $3.19 for the larger ones.
To spread awareness of the product, Mars, Inc., sent NFL running back Marshawn Lynch to a senior living community, where he drove around on a golf cart, getting older folks to try a taste of these sleeper spice bombs. Naturally, you can watch the video on YouTube.
We hear (from looking at Amazon reviews) that these bad boys aren’t too crazy spicy, but give you just the right amount of heat that lingers. Want to see for yourself? Start with one and see how they taste and feel.... Or just dump the whole bag in your mouth, because you’re, like, big and tough or something.
